NEWS!!!

Welcome!

 Happy New year everyone

This year I was fortunate to get an ipad for christmas , so my attention has gone to looking at apps that will transform my online activitys and make it easy to manage my digital presence.

the first thing I found was the array of apps available. During  a search within my network I had access to some great apps.

This  "Personal Learning Network" is being developed for learners to take control of and manage their own learning. It will help learners develop  learning goals while managing their personal learning process.

Having a PLN gives you  an opportunity to learn from others that are interested in the same learning strategies and information.

Social computing applications provide new platforms where people can connect, share and create together and become members of  networks and communities. There are a number of teacher community of practices, both closed and open, that allow teachers to network and share.

Whats Now!

Check out the e-links tab to find some amazing sites for your PLN

The Horizon Report for 2011 has been released!

Since 2005, the annual Horizon Report has been the most visible aspect of a focused collaboration between the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) and the New Media Consortium in which the two organizations engage their memberships in both the creation and outcomes of the research.

The New Media Consortium (NMC) is a globally focused not-for-profit consortium dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. Its hundreds of member institutions constitute an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges, universities, and museums in the worlds. For nearly 20 years, the consortium and its members have dedicated themselves to exploring and developing applications of emerging technologies for learning, research, and creative inquiry. 21st Century Education

A Quote from the past:
According to "21st Century Learning" in 2002 American writer and futurist Alvin Toffler once said "the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn."

We often talk about the Digital Divide how some have access to computer technology and how others dont, this problem is one that our goverment is continuosly trying to improve with such promises as every child will have access to a computer. It is important that this divide be eliminated in Australia and the use of e-learning in the classroom I feel will help ensure this happens. The reduction in price of Internet wider communication access and cheaper PC,s and Laptops will help this happen.

Wikipedia says

The "Digital Divide" refers to the gap between people with effective access to digital and information technology and those with very limited or no access at all. It includes the imbalance both in physical access to technology and the resources and skills needed to effectively participate as a digital citizen.
"Knowledge Divide" reflects the access of various social groupings to information and knowledge, typically by gender race and  location.
The term "Global Digital Divide" refers to differences in access between countries

According to a Framework Definitions Document, students should master the four following interconnected knowledge, skills and expertise in order to "succeed in work and life in the 21st century:"

  1. Core Subjects and 21st Century Themes: English, reading, foreign language, math, economics, science, geography, history and government AND global awareness, civic literacy, health literacy, and financial, economic, business and entrepreneurial literacy.
  2. Learning and Innovation Skills: Creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, and communication and collaboration.
  3. Information, Media and Technology Skills: Information literacy, media literacy, and information, communications and technology literacy.
  4. Life and Career Skills: Flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, social and cross-cultural skills, productivity and accountability, and leadership and responsibility.
